The China Population and Information Research Center subsequently released a 1% Sample of the individual questionnaires from the 1990 Census. This is the 1% 1990 China Census data-set now residing on the Texas A&M University China Archives.
The data-set on the China Archive consists of separate 1% samples for each of China’s three municipalities (Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin) and provinces and autonomous areas.
The total number of cases in this 1% sample is over 11 million.
The data are available line by line (one line per case) in a “dat” format.
